Traveling to Serengeti National Park is easy and convenient
Traveling to Serengeti National Park: Despite its remote location, Serengeti National Park is easily accessible.
Most tourists begin their Serengeti safari route at Kilimanjaro International Airport or busy Arusha. From here, you may either fly to your favourite lodge or take a safari vehicle. It is also feasible to combine the two, getting the best of both worlds!
By Air: Airlines & Ticket Prices & Domestic Flights
The best and most recommended option is to fly from Arusha to one of the park’s seven airstrips. International flights can arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), and local airlines like Grumeti Air or Coastal Aviation operate flights from JRO or Arusha Airport (ARK). Serengeti fly-in safaris are also available through scheduled or private charter flights to exclusive lodges that have their airstrip.

By Road
For those who prefer to travel by road, a popular option is to book a drive-in safari starting from Arusha. However, careful planning is necessary for self-drive safaris, and a 4×4 vehicle is required to access all roads throughout the year.
The Serengeti National Park has four main entry and exit points: Naabi Hill Gate (the busiest), Ndabaka Gate, Klein’s Gate, and Bologonya Gate (currently closed). All gates are open between 06h00 and 18h00 daily, but last entry times vary. When travelling to Serengeti National Park, flying is the most efficient and comfortable option, while driving can be time-consuming and requires extra planning.
