Umbwe Route Kilimanjaro Climbing: 7-Day Trekking Experience

The Umbwe route may be less known, but it offers a thrilling and rewarding Kilimanjaro climbing experience. Although initially considered challenging due to its steep start, the route is accessible to many climbers, especially those seeking a more remote and scenic trek. Beginning on the southern side of Mount Kilimanjaro, the trail merges with the Lemosho and Machame routes by the third day, just before reaching the iconic Barranco Wall. One of the highlights of Umbwe is the quiet solitude you’ll enjoy during the first two days—a few other trekkers share this path.

Available in both 6- and 7-day itineraries, we highly recommend the 7-day option, particularly for beginners or those without prior acclimatization. The route offers incredible panoramic views, crossing all of Kilimanjaro’s distinct climate zones, with unique flora and fauna along the way.
