Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Bukavu

Your safari adventure begins with an early morning pick-up by our experienced English-speaking driver guide, ready to take you from Kigali to Cyangugu in southern Rwanda. You’ll have the chance to take in the magnificent landscapes of southern Rwanda and explore the royal palace, Rukaari, home to King Rudahigwa, for an intense cultural experience. You’ll stop for lunch in Butare town and visit the Rwanda National Museum, one of the biggest museums in East Africa. After lunch, you’ll cross into the Congo at Cyangugu and continue to Bukavu for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast at your lodge, you’ll set off for gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park in the Congo. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the behaviour of the lowland gorillas in depth and the mountain gorillas at large. You’ll spend between 1-4 hours trekking, depending on the location of the primates and your hiking speed. You’ll have only an hour to observe the gorillas in their natural habitat, before embarking on a nature walk around the park trails. You’ll then visit the Tshibati waterfall, which offers stunning scenery. You’ll return to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Chimp trekking in Lwiro primate sanctuary

After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the Lwiro primate sanctuary offices for a briefing about tracking chimpanzees. You’ll spend several hours tracking and observing wild chimpanzees on foot, accompanied by expert local ranger guides who know the troop members personally and can interpret their behaviour. After the trek, you’ll return to your lodge for relaxation.

Day 4: Nature walk and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

On day four, after breakfast, you’ll start the day with a transfer to the starting point for a nature walk to the falls. You’ll have an opportunity to see red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and other species playing around. After the nature walk, you’ll continue your journey to Nyungwe in Rwanda via the Changungu border. You’ll arrive early and have time to relax at your lodge.

Day 5: Nyungwe Canopy walk and transfer back to Kigali
