The best time to visit Serengeti National Park: Your Classified guide
What is the best time to visit Serengeti National Park?
We don’t say this lightly: the Serengeti is always full of surprises, no matter the time of year.
The centrepiece of most travellers’ planning is, with good reason, to experience the Great Migration. However, we do invite you to look beyond ‘just’ the Great Migration and also discover other wonders of the Serengeti.
Welcome to Serengeti National Park, home to one of nature’s most incredible spectacles, the Great Migration. Witness two million animals, including wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles, undertake a long journey to find food and water. The best time to see the migration and the river crossing is between July and October. However, this is also the busiest time, and the crowds may detract from your safari experience.
But don’t worry; there’s more to the Serengeti than just the Great Migration. The park is home to many fascinating animals, such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, that you can observe in their natural habitat. To experience the park fully, we recommend splitting your safari itinerary into two parts. Spend some time in the heart of the migration action and the other portion in a remote, out-of-season location. This way, you can avoid the crowds and still have a fantastic safari experience.
If you want to avoid the crowds altogether, the low season is from mid-March to mid-May, early November to mid-December, and the last two weeks of January. During these periods, there are fewer visitors, and camp rates are much lower. You can still experience the park’s wonders, and you might even have the park to yourself.
Serengeti National Park has two seasons, the wet and the dry. The dry season is from late June to October and is the best time to see animals gathering around rivers and waterholes to quench their thirst. The wet season, from November to May, turns the dry landscape into a lush, green oasis, and the birthing season begins. Most lodges will remain open during the more tranquil wet season, and you can still have a great safari experience.
Don’t miss out on the chance to experience the wonders of Serengeti National Park. Book your safari today and witness some of the world’s most magnificent wildlife in their natural habitat.
