Day 2: Gorilla trekking- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing on the guidelines for gorilla safaris in Uganda. The group, consisting of 8 tourists, will be assigned a specific gorilla family based on their hiking abilities. Accompanied by a park ranger, the trek will begin and can last between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location.

Once the gorillas are encountered, you will have a maximum of 1 hour to observe and photograph these magnificent creatures. After the trek, you will return to the park headquarters to receive a gorilla trekking certificate. Your driver-guide will then ensure a safe transfer back to your lodge, where you can relax and refresh.

Here are some tips and guidelines to keep in mind when embarking on a gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park:

Consider hiring a porter to carry your pack up steep inclines. This not only supports sustainable employment in the community but can also be a great help.

Show respect to the gorillas by remaining silent and submissive when in their presence. Follow your guide’s instructions calmly and the gorillas will likely be unperturbed by your presence.
